I have tried to identify some of this year's (2001) largest VW only events through either the internet or VW magazines. Click on the below link for more information. Here is my list:
1) Car & Sound Messe in Sinsheim, Germany - 6 - 8 Apr 2001-completed spectator only, this was a Stereo Expo not a Car Show, VW Speed Magazine interviewed me at the show and took about a dozen pictures of me and my car, I look to see something in the up coming issues from this show.
2) GTI International, London, England - 12-13 May 2001 - Well I did good at GTI Int with a top placing of Runner up in Class 12 (MK IV Custom). I received a Silver Plate trophy and a few nice ribbons for the placing. The Golf magazine liked the car, and may see about the car being featured at Worthersee as they will be there too. 3) Worthersee Tour 2001, Austria - 23 - 26 May 2001 - What can I say about this event in Austria, but Huge, this is the World's Biggest VW and Audi Event, hands down! I ended up having my displayed with Bilstein as a promotion for the New MK IV PSS9 suspension. I met allot of good people, went to a VIP dinner in Velden and really was treated great. I think I was the only American there. I also ran to Dave Kumar and some other Hardcore VW nuts from the UK, which I remember meeting at GTI International a few weeks ago. 4) International VW-Audi Treffen Frankenland - 1 - 3 June 2001 - I arrived on Sunday to meet my new friend Tito and he helped me get the judge out to take a look at my Golf. The judges in Germany must be oriented in Body kits as the cars that placed here all had them. Anyways it was a smaller show and I guess I should have been there on Saturday to get a better look. I wasn't disappointed though and left after the trophies were handed out.
5) VW Forum, Castrop-Rauxel, 16 June, 2001 - this was a great VW event, and I only spectator, I brought along Charlie and we had a great time with taking pictures and sitting in cars. Their was a huge New Beetle bubble tent so Charlie could jump around, he didn't want to leave it. There was also a VW sponsored go-cart race which Charlie also got to do. I met up with Dave Kumar as he invited me in the first placed and got to meet the gang from England once again. I delivered some special VW parts to him and I called it a day, as have a small child with you a VW meeting can be exhausting. Pictures
6) International VW/Golf GTI-Treffen in Kronach - 8 -10 June 2001 - Did not attend! Too tired!
7) VW Meeting in Luxemburg-Stadt - 15 Jul 2001 - Placed 3rd in MKIV Golf, I stayed 3days 2 nights in Bitburg, visiting with my German friend Alwin and Roman. We had plenty of time to clean the VWs and Roman drove his VW Kubelwagen, old German army. I notced that I got allot of attention this show and allot of the people seemed to like my mirrors. The judging wasn't too impressive but I placed none the same. The bodykits again beat me out. Oh Well, I don't want one, and I will be getting the OEM side skirts from the 25Y GTI very soon, so I think I will have a better chance once these are on.
