Chip Tuning Dyno Report-7 AUG 01

Since Chip Tuning for the MKIV VR6 has so many people talking (good and bad), and since I was the first with a new UpSolute program for the VR6, I had to dyno my NA Spec GTI VR6 on the European Dyno.  The company in Austria, UpSolute, invited me down for a weekend and they really took care of me, they needed my NA Spec VR6 to do some comparsion test to figure out why the North American market VR6 wasn't showing much gains.  I felt very obligated to get a dyno as the UpSolute dyno was awaiting a part to show up.  I told them how important it was to have a dyno on the car after chip tuning.  Anyway after the UpSolute chip tuning I was soooo surprised at how much power I had and at my new found joy of driving this awesome machine.  Now this wasn't my first chip tuning, Wetterauer was installed in DEC 2000 and after chip tuning I never felt this big of an increase.  The Wetterauer did take away my speed limiter which made me happy.  But after a month I started to think my car had losed a little power.  I even changed my NGK-P to some new NGK-P to see if it had something to do with it.  There was no change.  I went to Upsolute with this in mind, if I didn't like the program at least i met some new friends and I would be putting in my original VW program.  But after the second chip comparsion test down in Austria I was convinced that UpSolute (Alex) was on to something.  I drove the car and instantly felt the increase that the new chip provided (MO1 chip).  Alex told me that it still had a limiter but asked me if I liked it, and I said yell ha.  By the end of the day Alex had found the limiter and had removed it so I could push my car to the limit (MO2 chip).

Bosch here in Germany basically does all kinds of things.  One thing they do is offer Automobile repair and electronics installations.  Another thing they do is TUV testing.  The dyno I used is for TUV power testing and is all measured in KW.  The UpSolute chip was installed in the car when I originally drove to Bosch and had been in the car since Austria, which was July 2001.  I know the MKIV VR6 motor needs some time to get used to the program but I did the chip swaps anyway.  The Upsolute chip (MO2 chip) was the fastest and most powerful chip tested out of the 4 chips.  Unfortunately Torque was not measured on this dyno but I am on the lookout for one.  If I find one I will do just the UpSolute one to figure out for myself what I am putting to the wheels.  Also I would like to say I did it for two reasons, I like Alex (Upsolute Owner) and wanted to provide him with a real NA Spec GTI VR6 European Dyno, and I wanted to know for myself and all of you.  Here are the other factors that I thought of after the test:

1.  95 ROZ (90 RON) Unleaded fuel from Esso station

2.  Temp - 71 degrees F, slightly humid

3.  Climatronic was "ON", my fault, but after I caught it, I didn't want to turn it off to change anything.

4.  68 mm full flow Stainless Steel exhaust, Milltek Turbo GTI Cat-Back system

5.  K&N panel filter, sucking through the OEM snorkel with no modifications here.

Here they are:

1st Dyno - Upsolute MO2

Here is the 2nd Dyno - Wetterauer

3rd Dyno was the UpSolute MO1

The 4th and last Dyno was the VW one, I traced the Upsolute MO2 Dyno to this sheet, so you could get an idea of the difference.

Here are some photos of the Dyno at Bosch.
