What's New?
Here is a new area in which I can post new
items installed on my car and news on other useful VW information.
My GTI VR6:
- European Front bumper - Since I added the
Golf V6 chin spoiler in April 00 I have always been stuck with the problem
that it didn't fit well (Short about 3/4" on both sides), I over came
this by adding some ABS plastic trim on each end, but it was never real to
my liking. So I have finally changed it and I also bought a new V6
chin spoiler to be sprayed at the same time. Install procedure
- Hella Washer system - This kit is
designed for the New Hella HID Projector lights, here in Germany the HID
lights are required by TUV to have headlight washers to keep the lens clean
on all HID systems. So I bought this complete kit to install on my NA
Specification Golf, it works great. Install
Procedure.
- ABT Sportsline Golf IV grill - This has
to be my favorite Golf IV grill out there, It is a little like the Oettinger
but in ABS plastic not Fiberglass. No more Kamei badgeless.
- Bora Front Leather Headrest - This idea
came from a Fellow Vortexer and I thought they were nice so I added them
too. I only changed to two front as I wanted to improve the Leather
seating looks.
- Bilstein PSS9
Coilovers Install, Neuspeed Rear Sway Bar Install, currently have the
settings set at 8 in front and 6 in the rear.
- European Instrument Cluster is now transplanted
into my GTI, it is awesome, my GTI speaks German now! Pictures!
I am the first to have performed this as far as
I know.
- OEM HID lighting,
this is from a wrecked 200 km Golf IV which I purchased from the
Netherlands, I am also working on getting the entire Auto leveling circuit
working as this is the icing on the cake for the installation. See
link.
- Auto leveling and Ballast brackets,
after getting the Xenon lights on, and getting over that "I have Xenon
light thing", I continued further to make these things really a factory
fit, installation. I ordered the correct brackets that hold the
ballast inside the wheel wells and also the 2 leveling sensors that attach to the front and rear suspension. I also ordered the correct hardware
for this as the NA Golf doesn't have the studs but it does have the holes
where the studs go, so it is a bolt on operation. The wiring is a PITA
and if you ever consider it, you need to talk to me. Mine works using
the VAG 1551 scanner, the HID lights do have K-diagnostics.
- Alpha 1 Carbon Fiber rear STB,
this is a sample product from Peter Lin in Florida manufacturing these great
looking bars, a front one is in the works. See link for installation
procedures. If interested email Peter, HERE.
- Audi S8 mirrors, I got
these finished 8 July 2001, They look great. They were not a direct
fit at all, as I had first thought. I had to use the base off of my
originals and then the arm and everything else form the Audi. The end
result is killer. They even have a motor to fold in although it isn't
hooked up right now. James Bond stuff again. I thought of idea
for this electric folding mirror. At high speeds you can have them
fold in automaticly just like a rear spoiler on a Corrado or Porsche, to
decrease wind resistance.
- ChipTronics, Powered by UpSolute,
A trip down to Tarmac, Austria really paid off, I now have a stronger
(Huge Torque) best running VR6 motor than ever before. The car acts
like the beast it really is now. It is so much more fun to drive since
this past weekend. The guys a Upsolute are great too, they invited me
down and really took care of me. Thanks to Alex, Ali, Ausie, and Rene
for making it worth my wild to do this. I had been missing out with my
old Chip (Wetterauer), it really sucks compared to this UpSolute
one.
- Milltek
Sport, Stainless Steel Cat-back Custom Exhaust System, Well what
can I say it is a work of art. Especially designed to fit on the GTI
and with use of a V6 rear spoiler. The guys at AMD helped me get
this. AMD is in England and they basically Tune Porsche, Audi and
VW. They practically built Gary Handa's GTI Turbo, with the Audi TT
225PS motor and TT 6 speed. Anyway they really helped me in getting
this and I owe them allot of thanks or Cheers!
- Neuspeed
Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines,
I got these from 1552 Design in
Sarasota Florida, the guys down there are just a great bunch of VW nuts and
really cater to our community. I wanted to upgrade the brake lines to
improve my pedal feel and increased pressure during hard braking. I
also did the recommended 2 year fluid change and added ATE DOT4 brake fluid
to maintain my brake system. It is very important to keep brake fluid
fairly fresh as this stuff absorbs moisture from the rubber and the
elements, and then CAN be turned into gas if the caliper is over heated
enough. The fluid boil point is decreased over time, so when you do
open brake fluid make sure it has some type of seal after the cap, as soon
as the bottle is opened the fluid starts the absorption process.
- European Model 25th Year
Anniversary Edition GTI parts, this new Euro model has an improved
set of 18" wheel from BBS, a 180PS 1.8T motor and a buch of exterior
and interior goodies. I have ordered the Steering wheel, E-brake,
shifter, badges, and side skirts from this car. I have some photos
up of the items I have gotten so far. See
here for pictures of these items on my car.
- CAI for my stock air box,
I made this out of some tubing I saw while I was at Bosch getting my GTI
Dyno tested. It is about 70mm in diameter and has a aluminum interior
and a paper middle and a plastic outside coating. I routed it beside
my 2001 battery box and down into the drivers side lower compartment and to
the duct on my Golf V6 4mo spoiler. It really look clean and is
pracitically invisible to normal Viewers. See
it here.
- Audi S3 front STB, Well my good friend
Gary Handa did this set-up to his Golf IV and I always knew about it, so I
mentioned it to allot of folks I ran into around Germany. One guy I
talked with went and got the number and installed it to his car. Well
he thanked me and I in-turned asked him for the part number for the STB.
He got it to me and I broke down and bought 2 of them. I installed
mine and used some stainless steel bolts to secure the STB to the car.
To see pictures go here.
- 25Y GTI rear brakes, 256mm rear
vented type, Volkswagen Zentrum Bamberg helped me complete this
project, but as it first developed was again my friend Gary Handa's Golf IV.
He had some Audi 256mm rear brakes installed to his car and I loved it.
I went to the Frankfurt Auto Show and saw the 25th GTI and saw it too had
256mm rear brakes. Since it was FWD I knew it now could be done
without too much fabrication. I ordered the parts needed and got busy.
Once into the job, I found out that the 256mm splash guards would not work,
so I ordered the 25Y GTI splash guards which once I had them in my hands I
knew they would work, but I found out that the wheel hubs would have to be
removed for them to be installed. I had Volkswagen Zentrum Bamberg
install the splash guards and install the new wheel hubs. The wheel
hubs are no different the the original wheel hubs, it is just you have to
get to 4 bolts that are behind them and their is no way to do this without
doing what I did. The wheel hubs have to be pulled off with special
tools and then pressed back on.
- 19" Breyton, Magic Racing
wheels, www.breyton.com I
went looking for some exclusive wheels for the GTI and had a selection of 3
down. When I went to price the 3 selections I found my audi Tuner (WKR)
to have a set of these 19" Breytons on hand and they were once on a
Tuned-up S3. I originally saw this car and this is how I became to
know them. I couldn't believe that they were For sale, plus the guys
gave me a huge discount on them. The wheels are 19" X 9" and
both have different offsets. The fronts are ET 48 and the rears are
ET38, the adapter to which must be used due to the fact that they are for
BMWs, is 24mm. BMW wheel pattern is 5 X 120 and the Golf IV is 5 X
100. The tires are Dunlop Sport 9000 235/ 35/ 19. These wheels
are 2 piece, with a stainless steel polished lip.
- Forge Motorsports Turbo Slotted
rotors, front and rear, Gary Handa came down from England and
brought me some new slotted rotors for my car, I had them installed and I
must say they are awesome. The stopping power has increased and really
looks great in thru the 19" wheels.
- Valentine 1 radar detector with
remote display, hardwired into the car, This is the best radar
detector around ( www.valetine1.com ),
So many raves about it, I had to have one for myself. I hardwired the
detector into the car by using the power inside the glove box. It
seems that the light inside the glove box only is hot when the key is in the
"On" position. So I used it as my power source and then
mounted the remote display down on my cellular phone mount (www.kuda-phonebase.de)
It all worked out great. My detector is mounted on the front window in
the center between the rear view mirror and the dash. The valentine 1
detector has a rear looking antenna and needs to have line of sight to the
rear window and front windows. I have no tint on the car so it
performs very well. Here
are some pictures.
- VW Bora lighted air vents,
Mainly a cosmetic modification, the Bora vents have lighted vents and close
so the vents are flush together. The look is great and I always loved
the way the Passats and Bora vents shut closed flush. I wired the
lights all to the dimmer switch and used the correct plugs and pins to the
vents so they could be removed without cutting any wire, just unplug them
like normally.
